Rodrigue’s Women
July 13, 2026
Location: Off Site
12:30 – 4 p.m.
Although best known for his Blue Dog Series, George Rodrigue (1944-2013) painted hundreds of images of women. These include the Cajun legends, Jolie Blonde and Evangeline, and the mystical Native American, Evergreen Lake. He also painted expressive portraits of his friends, such as the Grand Dame de Santa Fe, Rosalea Murphy, founder of the Pink Adobe Restaurant.
More than any other human subject, Rodrigue painted his wife, Wendy, completing hundreds of paintings and drawings over twenty years. Their wedding portrait features Wendy in her wedding dress alongside the Blue Dog in a tuxedo, commemorating her marriage to the Blue Dog Man. In time, she came to question her role not only within Rodrigue’s personal and artistic legacy, but also with regards to her own story and identity. Join Wendy Rodrigue Magnus for a personal afternoon of art and storytelling, accompanied by original George Rodrigue paintings from her personal collection.
In 2025, Wendy spent six weeks sharing the arts through inspiring sessions in Santa Fe Public Schools. 100% of her proceeds from these SFCC Continuing Ed classes support this outreach. This class is held off campus, and the location is emailed following registration. Limited to 20 students.
Curating the Blue Dog Man

Location: Off Site
12:30 – 4 p.m.
Join Wendy Rodrigue Magnus, widow of “Blue Dog” artist George Rodrigue, for a behind-the-scenes tour of her private collection of paintings and sculptures by Rodrigue, spanning art school to his death in 2013. Learn the stories behind the paintings, including the origin of the Blue Dog, the process and symbolism behind his Louisiana landscapes and Cajun paintings, and more. Of special interest is Rodrigue’s long history with Santa Fe and his many paintings inspired by the area, as well as masterful collaborations with Wendy’s current husband, renowned Santa Fe silversmith, Douglas Magnus.
A gifted storyteller and public speaker, Wendy leads a discussion that explores the responsibility surrounding her collection, and an overview of museum exhibitions and education initiatives surrounding the George Rodrigue Life & Legacy Foundation, now entering its tenth year.
