History

Louisiana last saw a statewide Rodrigue museum tour in 2009-11 when the New Orleans Museum of Art, following their blockbuster 2008 Rodrigue retrospective, organized exhibitions in partnerships with museums in Baton Rouge, Patterson, Alexandria, Shreveport, Lake Charles, Monroe, and Lafayette.

George Rodrigue and his wife Wendy attended openings, conducted events for area school children, and shared “painting demos” — when George painted for the crowds while Wendy shared his story.

The crowd was so large that the demo had to be moved last minute from the Rodrigue exhibition to another part of the museum!

Today, now ten years after Rodrigue’s death, Louisiana museums again honor the artist with career-spanning exhibitions.
